A Serra da Macambira é um local pouco conhecido da maioria dos jaboatonenses. Situada entre os engenhos Macujé e Caraúna, nos limites entre Jaboatão e Moreno, é composta por três montes e se destaca por ser o ponto mais alto do município. Serve como marco divisório das duas cidades e é vista de vários lugares da região.
A Serra da Macambira possui 255 metros de altitude em seu ponto mais alto, o que a coloca como sendo o pico culminante do município de Jaboatão dos Guararapes. É facilmente distinguível na paisagem circundante devido a essa altitude que é relativamente grande se comparada com seus arredores que mal atingem os 100 metros. Isso é explicado pelo fato da Macambira ser uma intrusão ígnea de idade brasiliana, enclavada em meio a rochas metamórficas. Como estas últimas são mais frágeis, a erosão diferencial atua preservando as rochas mais resistentes e desnudando as mais frágeis. Assim, por ser mais resistente, a Serra da Macambira prevalece ante as elevações vizinhas.
O nome Macambira refere-se a uma espécie de bromélia. De fato, como estas preferem ambientes rochosos, existem algumas na região, mas não foi possivel diagnosticar a espécie exata. Segundo os registros encontradas, havia uma gruta onde seria possível entrar 20 pessoas e um homem montado num cavalo. Seria na verdade uma furna. Porém, esta foi dinamitada para atender o desejo egoísta das pedreiras que atuam na zona rural do município. Um verdadeiro crime contra a natureza!
Do alto da Macambira é possível avistar boa parte da RMR. É possível avistar terras pertencentes a Olinda, Recife, Jaboatão, Cabo, Moreno, Vitória de Santo Antão e São Lourenço da Mata. Percebe-se os canaviais abundantes na região, resquícios de Mata Atlântica, a Reserva Florestal de Gurjaú, o Vale do Rio Gurjaú, engenhos de cana-de-açúcar, a sede da cidade de Moreno, entre outras coisas. Lá, o vento não cessa e a visão é muito bela! Há ainda um pequeno marco do IBGE no local mais alto, embaixo das torres de alta tensão da CHESF. OBS: Cuidado com as torres pois elas emitem radiação!
