Sua vegetação é constituída por floresta hipoxerófila e seu clima apresenta verões secos e períodos chuvosos, e tem altidude de 208 metros.
Pombos está situado geologicamente no planalto da Borborema ou Serra das Russas como também é conhecido e inserido nos domínios da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Capibaribe.
O nome Pombos é devido a grande presença desses animais na fauna da região que eram caçados pelos habitantes que denominaram a região inicialmente de São João nos Pombos e em seguida Pombos.
A região inicialmente foi povoada pelos irmãos José Manoel de Melo e Manoel Gomes de Assunção e posteriormente pelo padre Galdino Soares Pimentel e alguns e alguns outros habitantes.
Sua população está constituída por aproximadamente 24 429 habitantes na qual 40% localizada na zona rural. A economia da região está basicamente voltada para a agricultura tendo seu principal produto de cultivo o abacaxi.
Pombos oferece ao visitante um clima aconchegante sendo uma ótima opção para quem deseja descansar da agitação dos grandes centros urbanos nos contemplando com uma bela visão da natureza.
